Cote d'Ivoire possesses significant advantages in the mining sector, including advanced infrastructure, and lower electricity costs due to its hydrocarbon production, an expert emphasized.
Cote d'Ivoire "can draw inspiration" from
Mali and Burkina Faso in the gold industry development, President of the Association for the Promotion and Development of Mali's Mineral Resources
Djibril Diallo told
Sputnik Africa."If you take Cote d'Ivoire, it is truly very advanced in terms of infrastructure, roads, and routes of access and evacuation of mineral substances, mining exploration. They have a lot of infrastructure. They also benefit from access to the sea, which Mali and Burkina Faso do not have," the geologist said, commenting on Cote d'Ivoire's recently announced goal to surpass Mali and Burkina Faso's gold production by 2030.
Meanwhile, Mali has recently opened several lithium mines, which could help it diversify away from gold production, according to Diallo.
"This will propel Mali to the top of the list of lithium producers in Africa and 3rd in the world. It will make us forget a little about gold production, which has dominated the national economy for a very long time," he noted.
Cote d'Ivoire and Mali would also benefit from the development of a "common mining code that can be practiced in all
West African Economic and Monetary Union countries," the speaker emphasized.
