Trump Orders Cutting Functions of Gov't Entities, Including US Agency for Global Media
08:55 16.03.2025 (Updated: 16:48 17.03.2025) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - In February, US billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who is in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency, called for the closure of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty* and Voice of America*, arguing that "it is just radical left crazy people talking to themselves while torching $1 billion a year of US taxpayer money."
US President Donald Trump has signed an order on the reduction of federal bureaucracy, severely cutting the functions of several governmental entities, including the
United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which supervises, among others, the Voice of America and the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, according to a document published on the White House website.
"The non-statutory components and functions of the following governmental entities shall be eliminated to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law, and such entities shall reduce the performance of their statutory functions and associated personnel to the minimum presence and function required by law," the document read.
Along with the USAGM, the list includes the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the Minority Business Development Agency, the United States Interagency Council on
Homelessness and others. The listed entities will have, within seven days of the publication of the order, to file a report explaining which of their functions are statutorily required and to what extent, according to the document.
