US to Examine Russian Position on Ukraine Ceasefire Closely, Has Cautious Optimism: Rubio
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The United States will examine Russia’s position on the ceasefire in Ukraine closely, but there is a reason to be cautiously optimistic, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday.
Rubio described the recent engagement between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff as "very positive and productive".
"Obviously he [Witkoff] is on his way back he should be back and hopefully we'll convene this weekend. We'll examine the Russian position more closely and determine, the president [Donald Trump] will then determine, what the next steps are," Rubio told a press conference at the G7 summit in Canada.
