Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa will launch the Presidential Solarization Programme "soon," aiming to provide solar power to 200,000 households nationwide, particularly in rural areas. Information Minister Jenfan Muswere announced the initiative following Cabinet approval. The programme addresses the urban-rural divide and aligns with Zimbabwe's National Renewable Energy Policy goal of 1100 MW of renewable energy. Over the next five years, the project aims to reach 200,000 beneficiaries annually, boosting rural productivity. The Rural Infrastructural Development Agency will manage the project under an Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee, with input from local university experts. Affordable solar kits (batteries, inverters, panels, cables) will power essential devices. The initiative will also train local youths and women for installation roles in districts and villages.
