WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - The late February talks between Trump and Zelensky in Washington collapsed following their verbal altercation in front of reporters in the Oval Office. Zelensky was criticized for his lack of gratitude for US aid and disrespectful behavior in the White House.
Steve Witkoff, the US envoy to the Middle East, said on Monday that Volodymyr Zelensky had sent an apology letter to US President Donald Trump.
"Zelensky sent a letter to the president. He apologized for that whole incident that happened in the Oval Office. I think that was an important step," Witkoff told Fox News.
Last week, Trump said during his address to Congress that earlier in the day he had received a letter from Zelensky that expressed Ukraine's readiness to reengage in negotiations to achieve lasting peace. Zelensky's spokesman, Sergii Nykyforov, clarified that there was no letter and Trump was talking about the Ukrainian president's social media post.
