The administration of US President Donald Trump understands that there will be no role for Volodymyr Zelensky after the conflict in Ukraine is settled, US journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh said, citing sources. US intelligence has long considered Zelensky to be a member of a group of political and military leaders in Ukraine who are "pumping out" millions of dollars in aid supplied by the US and Europe, Hersh said in his blog on Substack. As Hersh's informed source notes, US Vice President JD Vance has been tasked with conveying to Kiev's European allies Washington's demand to refrain from new military aid to Ukraine and providing it with money for reconstruction if Zelensky remains in power. Ultimately, according to the insider, Zelensky will stay for a while, but within a year he will be replaced and the fire will stop, the journalist pointed out. Furthermore, current US efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine are aimed primarily at achieving a "short-term and pragmatic" goal, which is a ceasefire, he emphasized.During a meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council in January, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the goal of settling the conflict in Ukraine should not be a short truce and a respite for regrouping forces and rearming with the aim of subsequently continuing the conflict, but a long-term peace. According to Putin, the Russian authorities will continue to fight for the interests of the Russian people; this is the meaning of the special operation. Peace in Ukraine, Putin noted, should be based on "respect for the legitimate interests of all people, all nations that live in this region."
