Pakistan Did Not Consult With Afghanistan on Daesh Member's Extradition to US, State Minister Says
09:37 09.03.2025 (Updated: 15:19 10.03.2025) ISLAMABAD (Sputnik) - Terrorist Mohammad Sharifullah, arrested by the FBI for his role in killing US servicemen at the Kabul airport in 2021, was also responsible for attacks in Russia and Iran, the US Department of Justice said on Wednesday.
Pakistan did not consult with Afghanistan regarding
Daesh* member Mohammad Sharifullah's extradition to the United States, Pakistani Minister of State for Law and Justice Aqeel Malik told
Sputnik.
"Sharifullah was arrested on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and eventually extradited to the US. We had no need to consult with Afghanistan," Malik said.
The Daesh terrorist admitted to aiding the deadly attack on Afghanistan's airport in Kabul in 2021, which killed 13 US military servicemen and 160 civilians during the US-led evacuation operation, the US Department of Justice said on Wednesday.
Sharifullah also confessed to instructing several perpetrators of the 2024 terrorist attack in the
Crocus City Hall near Moscow, the US department noted.
"On March 22, 2024, a group of ISIS-K [Daesh regional branch] gunmen attacked Crocus City Hall near Moscow, Russia. The attack killed approximately 130 people and injured numerous others. Russian authorities arrested four gunmen in connection with the attack. During his interview with the FBI, Sharifullah admitted that, on behalf of ISIS-K, he had shared instructions on how to use AK-style rifles and other weapons to would-be attackers. Sharifullah also admitted to recognizing two of the four arrested gunmen as those he had previously instructed," read a press release.
If convicted, the terrorist may face a maximum penalty of life in prison, the US department added.
