The inauguration of Sky Win Aeronautics Industries, a company that manufactures UAVs for both civilian and military use, is part of Ethiopia's broader efforts to achieve technological self-reliance in the security sector, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed pointed out at the launch ceremony.
Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Saturday inaugurated a new UAV manufacturing company, aimed to fuel the county's tech self-reliance and peaceful deterrence.

"Today, as we inaugurate Sky Win Aeronautics Industries, we recognize that the locally manufactured drones before us were unimaginable just a few years ago," Abiy Ahmed said on X, emphasizing that the company aims "not to fuel conflict, but to prevent it" through deterrence.

Ethiopia's ability to produce drones with diverse capabilities, designed and built by local young professionals, is a significant milestone, but sustaining this progress will require continued research investment, market expansion and increased domestic production of smart sensor technologies, the prime minister noted.
Notably, Ethiopia has developed the capacity not only to produce and utilize drones domestically, but also to export them, he stated at the launch ceremony.
