US Secretary of State Rubio in Call With Ukraine's FM Urges Steps to Secure Peace: State Dept.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - During his election campaign, Trump vowed to end the Ukraine conflict within 24 hours of taking office. Meanwhile, US special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg has set a goal of ending the conflict in 100 days after Trump's inauguration on January 20.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a telephone call with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, stressed the need for all parties to the conflict to take steps to achieve sustainable peace, the State Department said in a statement.
"Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on the phone today. The Secretary underscored President [Donald] Trump is determined to end the war as soon as possible and emphasized that all sides must take steps to secure a sustainable peace," the statement said.
Russia has been conducting its special military operation since February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the operation aims to "protect people subjected to genocide by the Kiev regime." According to the president, the ultimate goal of the operation is to completely liberate Donbas and create conditions that guarantee Russia's security: Ukraine must undergo demilitarization and denazification.
