17:42 02.03.2025 (Updated: 17:55 03.03.2025) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Donald Trump is the only person in the world who has any chance of bringing Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table to end the Ukrainian conflict.
Most European countries have no plan of how to end the
Ukrainian conflict, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sunday.
"I've asked every foreign minister I meet with, tell me your idea of how this turns out. Most don't have a plan," he said in an interview with the ABC broadcaster.
Some countries suggested that the conflict should continue for at least another year, the US official pointed out.
"A few have said, well, let's give them another year of fighting. A year from now, a year later, after another year of death, another year of destruction, then maybe Putin will be ready to negotiate at that point. That doesn't sound like a good plan to me, and it certainly is not a plan that the president is on board with," Rubio noted.
The only way to put an end to the conflict is to involve
the Russian side in the peace talks, while European leaders and the previous US administration failed to do, the US secretary of state emphasized.
"And the only way you're going to do that [end the conflict] is to get Russians engaged in negotiations, something the Europeans haven't been able to do. The Biden administration wasn't able to do or didn't even try. That's the goal here. It's that simple," he stated.
