Sending European troops to Ukraine would inevitably mean that they would come into contact with Russian troops, Thierry Mariani, Member of the European Parliament, told Sputnik Africa, highlighting the potential threat of a war.He also argued that integrating Ukraine into the European Union or NATO would be "one more step towards an inevitable, much more serious conflict." Europe cannot acknowledge Zelensky's failure, the French politician also said, arguing that the war in Ukraine is "ruining Europe" in a way similar to how the Afghanistan war triggered the Soviet Union's downfall. He said that the damage caused by the war in Ukraine may not be immediately obvious because Europe has been taking out loans that will never be repaid. Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that he was trying to get the money back for the billions of dollars sent to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he does not want to allow a direct military clash with Russia as a result of sending a so-called peacekeeping corps to Ukraine.
Sending European troops to
Ukraine would inevitably mean that they would come into contact with Russian troops,
Thierry Mariani, Member of the European Parliament, told
Sputnik Africa, highlighting the potential threat of a war.
He also argued that integrating Ukraine into the European Union or
NATO would be "one more step towards an inevitable, much more serious conflict."
"I think that this security can be obtained either by a commitment of the different countries, or by a status of neutrality, but certainly not by joining NATO," Mariani said.
Europe cannot acknowledge
Zelensky's failure, the French politician also said, arguing that the war in Ukraine is "ruining Europe" in a way similar to how the Afghanistan war triggered the Soviet Union's downfall.
He said that the damage caused by the war in Ukraine may not be immediately obvious because Europe has been taking out loans that will never be repaid.
"In a few years, very quickly, the Europeans will discover that ultimately all the loans made to Mr. Zelensky will have to be repaid. And when the Americans, with Mr. Trump, fight to get their money back, the French, the Europeans will have nothing left," Mariani said.
Earlier,
US President Donald Trump said that he was trying to get the money back for the billions of dollars sent to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.
