MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in the Chinese capital, Beijing, on Friday, where the sides exchanged views on topical issues of global and regional security.
Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu and Chinese President Xi Jinping, during the talks, emphasized the inadmissibility of extending NATO's area of responsibility to the Asia-Pacific region, the Russian Security Council said in a statement on Friday.

"Special attention was paid to discussing the situation in the Asia-Pacific [...] The inadmissibility of extending NATO’s area of responsibility to the Asia-Pacific, the importance of maintaining an Association of South East Asian Nations-centric security architecture in the region and the risks posed by narrow-bloc closed formats emerging in Asia were emphasized," the statement read.

Xi and Shoigu further emphasized the importance of maintaining stability on the Korean Peninsula, the Russian Security Council added.
