Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army and RSF have been engaged in a conflict that has caused a humanitarian crisis. The UN and local authorities estimate over 20,000 deaths and 14 million displaced, while US universities estimate around 130,000 deaths.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has no military presence in Alkotainh, located in the White Nile State, the media reported, citing a local volunteer group.
Alkotainh, previously the only town controlled by the RSF in southern Sudan, is located 100km south of Khartoum. The RSF still controls four of Darfur's five states, while northern and eastern Sudan remain mostly unaffected by the conflict.

In Khartoum State, the army controls 90% of Bahri in the north, most of Omdurman in the west, and 60% of central Khartoum, including key sites. Army forces have nearly encircled these strategic locations, while RSF fighters remain in the eastern and southern neighborhoods, according to the media.
