The special military operation, during which Russia is confronted by virtually all of NATO, has shown that today there is no more effective military in the world than the Russian one, Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko said on Sunday. The speaker emphasized that soldiers and officers worthily continue the glorious military traditions, "like their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, display heroism, courage, bravery, and high combat training" in battles "for the freedom and independence of our Motherland, for our right to independently determine our path of development." The official said the Russian government will continue to do everything to help defenders of the Fatherland fulfill their sacred duty and support them and their families. The fight that Russia is waging as part of the special military operation does not have the goal of seizing territories; its goal is to eradicate neo-Nazism and create conditions for a lasting and just peace both for Russia and for the entire world, Matvienko also said.

Russian Military Shows Effectiveness in Special Operation Despite NATO Efforts: Upper House Chair
07:36 23.02.2025 (Updated: 16:18 24.02.2025) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Defender of the Fatherland Day, Russia honors those who are now defending the country's borders and ensuring stability and state sovereignty through dedicated work, the Russian Federation Council speaker said, thanking the soldiers who selflessly fulfill their official and civilian duty during the special military operation.
The special
military operation, during which Russia is confronted by virtually all of NATO, has shown that today there is no more effective military in the world than the Russian one, Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko said on Sunday.
"A consistent, firm, and, in some cases, tough course towards restoring and strengthening the military might of our Fatherland has yielded visible results. The special military operation, during which Russia is confronted by virtually all of NATO, clearly shows that today there is no more effective army in the world than in Russia," Matvienko said in a publication on the Federation Council website, timed to coincide with Defender of the Fatherland Day.
The speaker emphasized that soldiers and officers worthily continue the glorious military traditions, "like their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, display heroism, courage, bravery, and high combat training" in battles "for the freedom and independence of our Motherland, for our right to independently determine our path of development."
"We can proudly say: Russia was, is, and will be a country of heroes, a country of defenders of the Fatherland," Matvienko added.
The official said the Russian government will continue to do everything to help defenders of the Fatherland fulfill their sacred duty and support them and their families.
"By the decision of the Russian president, this year has been declared the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. And we in the Federation Council will continue to work on improving the legislative framework regulating issues of legal and social protection of soldiers," the speaker said.
The fight that Russia is waging as part of the special military operation does not have the goal of seizing territories; its goal is to eradicate neo-Nazism and create conditions for a lasting and just peace both for Russia and for the entire world,
Matvienko also said.
"The fight we are waging does not have the goal of expansion or territorial conquest. Our goal is to eradicate neo-Nazism and create conditions that ensure a lasting and just peace for both Russia and all of humanity," she noted.
