A source in the office of Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed the veracity of media reports stating that Kiev is not ready to sign an agreement with the United States on mineral resources, Ukrainian television channel Hromadske reported on Saturday. The source in Zelensky’s office told Hromadske that the agreement on rare earth metals would not be signed today, the broadcaster said on Telegram. On February 3, US President Donald Trump said that the US expected Ukraine to provide access to its rare earths in return for financial and military assistance. On February 14, the Washington Post reported that US negotiators suggested at the meeting with Zelensky in Munich that he sign a document that would transfer the rights to 50% of Ukraine's yet-to-be-extracted mineral resources to the US. Zelensky said he had rejected the deal, arguing it was not in Ukraine's interest. On Friday, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz expressed confidence that Zelensky would sign a mineral deal with Washington in the near future.

Zelensky’s Office Reportedly Confirms Ukraine's Refusal to Sign Minerals Deal With US
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Sky News reported earlier in the day citing a Ukrainian source that Zelensky is not ready to sign an agreement on mineral resources with the US as it does not "reflect a partnership" and encompasses only "unilateral commitments by Ukraine," the source was quoted as saying.
On February 14, the Washington Post reported that US negotiators
suggested at the meeting with Zelensky in Munich that he sign a document that would transfer the rights to 50% of Ukraine's yet-to-be-extracted mineral resources to the US.
Zelensky said he had rejected the deal, arguing it was
not in Ukraine's interest. On Friday, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz expressed confidence that Zelensky would sign a mineral deal with Washington in the near future.
