The changes in Zambia's government are reportedly aimed at improving governance, administrative efficiency and economic management, and emphasize President Hichilema's commitment to tackling corruption, poor governance performance and public mistrust.
Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has implemented some changes at the ministerial and permanent secretary levels, firing several high-level officials, including a province minister, a government deputy chief whip, and multiple permanent secretaries, State House private secretary Bradford Machila said in a statement.
New appointments include ministers for two provinces and a new government deputy chief whip, as well as permanent secretaries for key roles at the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, and in provincial administration.
Additionally, the president has reshuffled several positions in ministries such as Defense, Local Government and Rural Development, and Lands and Resources.
The cabinet reshuffle is reportedly aimed at positioning Hichilema's government favorably ahead of the 2026 general elections scheduled for August 13, 2026.
