MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Former Ugandan presidential candidate Kizza Besigye, who was abducted from Kenya, has been charged with treason, Ugandan newspaper Monitor reported on Friday.
In November, the newspaper reported that a military court in Uganda had taken Besigye into custody. He was accused of plotting an attack on the Ugandan army, as well as of illegal possession of two guns and bullets.
Besigye, his aide Obeid Lutale and Ugandan military officer Denis Oola were charged with treason by a court in Uganda's Kampala.
The detainees are reportedly accused of plotting to overthrow the Ugandan government.
