The Central African Republic (CAR) significantly succeeded in combating illegal armed groups with Moscow's support, Russia's Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations said on Thursday. At the same time, despite improvements in CAR's stability and strengthened ties between Moscow and Bangui, some Western countries "continue to 'beat a dead horse' of their discrediting campaign against Russian assistance," though it is increasingly seen as ineffective, the Russian envoy added.Meanwhile, the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the CAR (MINUSCA) plays a crucial role in stabilizing the country, maintaining constructive dialogue with local authorities, and supporting upcoming electoral events in 2025 and 2026, Evstigneyeva pointed out. While security concerns in the CAR still persist near the Sudanese border due to infiltration by rebel groups, illegal arms and precious metals trade, and recruitment of CAR fighters by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces, the strengthening of the CAR Armed Forces and international cooperation will contribute to restoring peace in the African country, Evstigneyeva also noted.

While security threats in the Central African Republic persist, armed groups have been largely pushed to the borders with neighboring countries. The focus now is on supporting national efforts to secure borders, prevent cross-border fighter movements, and halt the supply of weapons, Russia's deputy UN envoy noted.
The Central African Republic (CAR) significantly succeeded in combating illegal armed groups with
Moscow's support, Russia's Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations said on Thursday.
"In recent years, Bangui, with the support of the UN and bilateral partners, particularly Russia, has achieved significant progress in combating illegal armed groups and ensuring government control over 90% of the country's territory," Anna Evstigneyeva stated at the UNSC meeting on the situation in the CAR.
At the same time, despite improvements in CAR's stability and
strengthened ties between Moscow and Bangui, some Western countries "continue to 'beat a dead horse' of their discrediting campaign against Russian assistance," though it is increasingly seen as ineffective, the Russian envoy added.
"Russia intends to continue providing comprehensive assistance to the friendly CAR on a basis of mutual respect and equality, in the interest of establishing lasting peace and security," she said.
Meanwhile, the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the CAR (MINUSCA) plays a crucial role in stabilizing the country, maintaining constructive dialogue with local authorities, and supporting upcoming electoral events in 2025 and 2026, Evstigneyeva pointed out.
"We are convinced that the successful holding of municipal elections in July—for the first time in several decades—will be one of the most important milestones on the road to a return to peaceful life and the translation of security gains into progress on the development track. We concur with the secretary general's call for additional donor resources to fill the trust fund to finance the polls," the diplomat said.
