MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The bill calls for ceasing "all forms of US financial support to the UN, including assessed and voluntary contributions," bans any US involvement in UN peacekeeping missions, and "prohibits the President from reentering the UN system without the advice and consent of the Senate."
Republicans in the US Senate have introduced a bill to fully withdraw the country from the United Nations, according to the relevant document released on the website of one of the co-sponsors, Senator Mike Lee.
"Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) has introduced the Disengaging Entirely from the United Nations Debacle (DEFUND) Act, which calls for the United States' complete withdrawal from the United Nations (UN). This legislation addresses grave issues of national sovereignty and fiscal accountability which have plagued US involvement in the UN," the document read.
