On Tuesday, the Saudi capital of Riyadh hosted high-level talks between Russia and the US. The Russian delegation included Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. The US was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy for the Middle East Stephen Witkoff.
The recent high-level Russia-US talks in Riyadh, the first since President Trump's return, have left the EU feeling sidelined and exposed, according to geopolitical experts. The meeting, which included discussions on resuming diplomatic relations and initiating regular consultations on the Ukraine crisis, highlighted the EU's diminished influence in the conflict.
"Despite the European attempts to support Ukraine, it seems that they are in a weak position because they lack the military, economic and political potential to meet such challenges," geopolitical expert Ali Zreiq told Sputnik.
He compared Brussels to a "colossus with feet of clay." The conflict on its doorstep was a shock, and after the unexpected contact between Trump and Putin, Europe feels marginalized.

Riyadh Talks With US Useful, Says Lavrov
The EU has been too lax in strengthening its military and economic capabilities, the expert continued. Affected by the Ukrainian crisis more than Russia, Europe will face great challenges in the future, he argued.
In recent days, some European leaders have tried to show unity, but the divisions are blatant, pointed out Ismail Khalafallah, a political observer and expert on European issues.
For him, attempts to bring Europe to the negotiating table could cause difficulties, given the role it has played in escalating the Ukrainian crisis.
