Africa to Become 'Next Major Global Development Center,' Says Africanist
10:25 19.02.2025 (Updated: 18:26 19.02.2025) The Institute of African Studies (IAS) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) is Russia's leading academic research center for African studies and is considered one of the world's most prestigious institutions in the field. The IAS was founded in October 1959, on at the onset of the collapse of the colonial system.
The African continent will be the "next major global
development center," according to Irina Abramova, Director of the Institute for African Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"I used to think that this would happen by 2050, but with the acceleration of events, I think it will happen 10 to 15 years earlier," Abramova told Sputnik.
Africa has all the resources and demographic
potential for successful development, she stated.
"In 10 to 15 years, the active population will far exceed the inactive population. This will boost growth," Abramova explained.
It's important to highlight that the African continent is not seeking "abstract economic growth," but rather a higher quality of life for its people through
development.
This is what the specialist emphasized, noting that it is precisely what is outlined in the African Union's Agenda 2063.
"All African countries are different in terms of geography, climate, and economic potential. Africa is different, but it is developing rapidly," she concluded.
