Rwanda has decided to suspend development cooperation with Belgium, the Rwandan Foreign Ministry said. Belgium, along with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has been aggressively campaigning to sabotage Rwanda's access to development finance, including through multilateral institutions, the Rwandan Foreign Ministry stated. This is happening even as the international community is being urged to support the African Union and EAC-SADC-led mediation process to resolve the crisis in the eastern DRC, the ministry noted.The ministry stated that Rwanda is suspending its remaining 2024-2029 bilateral aid program with Belgium, arguing that development finance should not be used as a tool of pressure and that there is no longer a sound basis for development cooperation with Belgium.The confrontation between the M23 rebel movement and the government in Kinshasa has continued for years, interrupted by brief periods of truce mediated by Angola. The DRC government accuses neighboring Rwanda of supporting the rebels and urges it to withdraw its troops from the country. Rwanda has rejected all accusations.

Rwanda has decided to suspend development cooperation with Belgium, the Rwandan Foreign Ministry said.
Belgium, along with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has been aggressively campaigning to sabotage Rwanda's access to
development finance, including through multilateral institutions, the Rwandan Foreign Ministry stated.
