Cuba obtaining the status of a BRICS partner state could open up additional prospects for interaction with the economies of the Global South, which are actively forming the framework of a new international financial architecture, Russian Ambassador to Cuba Viktor Koronelli told Sputnik in an interview published on Tuesday. The modality of a BRICS partner state is an innovation that was launched under the Russian presidency in 2024, the diplomat said, adding that now, such countries are invited to participate in BRICS summits and meetings of foreign ministers. Commenting on the possibility of Cuban projects being financed from the BRICS bank, Koronelli noted that this multilateral financial development institution is open to all UN member states. Amid sanctions that effectively block Cuba's access to global financial and investment resources, the country will be interested in attracting "long" money for infrastructure projects, the ambassador said. Cuba joined BRICS as a partner state on January 1, 2025.

Cuba Joining BRICS to Help Country Establish Ties With Global South, Russian Ambassador States
PANAMA (Sputnik) - Last December, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated at a briefing that welcoming partner countries into the "BRICS family" signifies a new phase of collaboration within the group.
Cuba obtaining the status of a BRICS partner state could open up additional prospects for interaction with the economies of the
Global South, which are actively forming the framework of a new international financial architecture, Russian Ambassador to Cuba Viktor Koronelli told
Sputnik in an interview published on Tuesday.
"With getting this status, I believe, Cuba will have additional prospects for establishing direct cooperation with the leading economies of the Global South, which are actively forming the framework of a new international financial architecture of a multipolar world. At the same time, the practical modality of the functioning of the institution of a BRICS partner state is still being worked out. I hope we will see its more concrete contours during the 'Brazilian tenure' this year," Koronelli said.
Amid sanctions that effectively block
Cuba's access to global financial and investment resources, the country will be interested in attracting "long" money for infrastructure projects, the ambassador said.
Cuba joined BRICS as a
