The government of Tanzania has taken several steps to boost the country's digital economy. One of the key initiatives is the adoption of the National Digital Economy Strategy, which covers the period from 2024 to 2034. The strategy focuses on international standards, promotes digital literacy, and ensures inclusivity for all.
Tanzania has launched a mobile app for its National Physical Addressing System (NaPA) to enhance transportation and security.
“The [National Physical Addressing] NaPA system is a game-changer in our transport sector. It will make it easier for drivers to locate passengers with pinpoint accuracy, reducing travel time and improving security,” the minister for Information, Communication and Information Technology, Jerry Silaa, said at the launch event.
The NaPA app uses geolocation technology to streamline ride requests. Passengers enter their address, allowing drivers to navigate quickly to their location, especially in areas with informal address systems. This technology also enhances safety by logging all transactions, minimizing the risk of passengers or drivers getting lost or falling victim to scams.
