US President Donald Trump's administration is reportedly considering relocating Gazans to self-proclaimed entities of Somaliland and Puntland in Somalia, and possibly to Morocco, in exchange for political support.
US President Donald Trump's statement on the possible
relocation of Gazans is a completely inappropriate and irrelevant decision, Moroccan political scientist and writer
Abdelhak Najib told
Sputnik Africa."We cannot deport a population of more than 1.7 million people who have already endured months and months of war in which more than 45,000 people have been killed and hundreds of thousands injured, including women and children, and almost 90% of the Gaza Strip has been turned into ruins and rubble," the expert said.
US President Trump previously suggested a mass relocation of Palestinians to other countries, such as Egypt or Jordan, as part of his plan to turn the Gaza Strip into the "Riviera of the Middle East."
Making such statements today is very
dangerous in conditions of intense conflict, the expert stressed.
"Such a statement seems to me completely incomprehensible, irrational, and above all surreal," he said, adding that many Arab countries have expressed their rejection of the statements by President Donald Trump.
Moreover, neither Saudi Arabia
nor Egypt would ever support the deportation of the Palestinian people, Najib noted.
"The Israelis have apparently agreed to put Gaza under American rule. […] When the Americans arrive somewhere, the reconstruction of the territory is not yet complete, but the conflict can drag on, and it will serve the Israeli agenda, which is to cleanse the Gaza Strip of its inhabitants and occupy it permanently," the speaker pointed out.
As for the prospect of Africa being in Washington's crosshairs, the political analyst said that despite a very strong American presence on the continent, the Americans today are not ready to open other fronts in Africa.
