On Thursday, Sudan's military launched a multipronged offensive to retake the center of the country's capital, Khartoum, an army source told a French media outlet, adding that the military is nearing the city center and aims to expel the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. The military secured a strategic base controlling the road between central Khartoum and Omdurman city, a key part of greater Khartoum, the report said, adding that troops from eastern Sudan are close to joining forces with armed forces from Al-Jazira state, south of the capital, as part of the broader operation.Clashes were also reportedly seen near the Soba Bridge, a key southeastern entrance to the capital.Meanwhile, the Sudanese army said it had made significant progress in Khartoum on Wednesday.

In late January, the Sudanese army broke the siege on its headquarters in Khartoum, which had been imposed by the RSF since the beginning of the conflict in April 2023.
On Thursday, Sudan's military launched a multipronged offensive to retake the center of the country's capital, Khartoum, an army source told a French media outlet, adding that the military is nearing the city center and aims to expel the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Mohamed
Hamdan Dagalo."[The army] is close to reaching the center of Khartoum... and expelling the Dagalo militia. […] Our armed forces are advancing from multiple axes," the source was quoted as saying.
The military secured a strategic base controlling the road between central Khartoum and Omdurman city, a key part of greater Khartoum, the report said, adding that troops from eastern Sudan are close to joining forces with armed forces from Al-Jazira state, south of the capital, as part of the broader operation.
Clashes were also reportedly seen near the Soba Bridge, a key southeastern entrance to the capital.
Meanwhile, the Sudanese army said it had made significant progress in Khartoum on Wednesday.
"Our forces have made significant progress in Khartoum, securing the entire area of Al-Rumaila [a neighborhood only three kilometers from the RSF-held Republican Palace], a medical depot, an industrial area, and the state's currency mint," Sudanese Armed Forces' spokesman Nabil Abdallah said in a statement on Thursday.
