On Tuesday, the Kazakh Transport Ministry published a preliminary report on the investigation of the Embraer-190 aircraft crash of Azerbaijan Airlines near Kazakhstan's Aktau. The damage done to the AZAL plane that crashed in Aktau indicates that there was penetration of external objects into its structure, the report said.
The Russian side has not yet received samples for their examination of any "foreign elements" that were found in the body of the Embraer-190 aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines that crashed in Kazakhstan's Aktau, the RT TV channel reported on Tuesday, citing a source in Russian aviation involved in the investigation of the crash.
"The Russian side has not yet received samples of the foreign elements that were found in the body of the aircraft for their examination. [...] Therefore, the allegations of some foreign media about their identification as elements of the Pantsir missile require at least further investigation," the source said, as quoted by RT.
The pilot of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane reported an explosion of an oxygen tank on board before the crash, according to a preliminary report on the investigation of the causes of the crash published by the Kazakh Transport Ministry.
"So, we have a situation like this; oxygen is running out in the passenger cabin, which means that the oxygen tank, in my opinion, exploded there. The smell of fuel is coming; some passengers are losing consciousness; allow to go at a lower altitude," the recording of the negotiations between the crew and the dispatchers read.
An AZAL Embraer 190 plane flying from Baku to Russia’s Grozny crashed on the morning of December 25 near the western Kazakh city of Aktau with 62 passengers and five crew members on board. Kazakhstan's emergencies ministry said 29 people survived the crash. The black boxes were sent to Brazil for decoding to ensure an impartial investigation, Kazakh authorities said on December 30.
