Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was invited to celebrations in Moscow on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Russian ambassador to Egypt said.
Relations between Russia and Egypt are developing confidently and successfully; BRICS has given a new impetus to their development, Russian Ambassador to Cairo Georgy Borisenko told Sputnik.
"Relations are developing confidently and successfully. Of course, Egypt's accession to BRICS from January 1, 2024, gave a new impetus to their development, also because Russia was the BRICS chair in 2024, and one of the main goals of the Russian chairmanship was precisely to involve new members in the formats of cooperation previously developed in BRICS," Borisenko said.
The diplomat stressed that Egypt is actively involved in the work of BRICS and participates in almost all formats of cooperation within this organization. Borisenko noted that Russia is optimistic about the development of relations with Egypt.
"Within the BRICS, we are actively working on creating new payment mechanisms. Egypt is fully involved in these processes, as it is also interested in developing its foreign trade," the diplomat added.
Meanwhile, Russia expects El Dabaa, Egypt's first nuclear power plant constructed with the help of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, to be
fully operational by March 2030, Borisenko also pointed out.
"We expect that, if everything goes as planned, the nuclear power plant should be fully operational by the end of February 2030, although we see attempts by the West to prevent this by imposing sanctions against Rosatom," the ambassador said.
The El Dabaa construction project is the world's largest nuclear project, Borisenko emphasized. It will have four Generation 3+ VVER-1200 pressurized water reactors, with a total generating capacity of 4,800 megawatts.
"The construction is proceeding strictly according to schedule. All four power units are currently under construction. The delivery and installation of equipment manufactured in Russia and some other countries has begun," Borisenko said.
