The Zimbabwean ruling party ZANU-PF is trying to extend the term of President Emmerson Mnangagwa beyond 2028 without holding a referendum. To do this, they want to amend the constitution and postpone the elections until 2030, giving President Emmerson Mnangagwa another two years in office. This aligns with the constitution, as it does not alter the two-term limit, Godwills Masimirembwa, the Harare Provincial Chairman of ZANU PF, explained. The party's decision to extend the president's term is now being implemented through parliament, Munyaadzi Machacha, the National Political Commissar of ZANU PF, said. He emphasized that this decision is final, and anyone who disagrees should have voiced their concerns earlier at various party meetings.
