Tanzania's Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) is nearing completion, with eight out of nine turbines having been installed, according to Doto Biteko, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy.The JNHPP, which costs over $2.5 billion, is expected to produce 2,115 megawatts of electricity, Biteko said, noting that it will increase Tanzania's current capacity of 3,404 megawatts.The government of Tanzania aims to increase access to clean energy from 6.9% to 75% and to increase the use of renewable energy from 56% to 65%.
