10:57 30.01.2025 (Updated: 12:06 30.01.2025) MOSCOW (Sputnik) - On Wednesday, a plane with 21 passengers on board crashed while departing from the Unity oil field in the north of South Sudan.
The death toll from
a plane crash in South Sudan reached 20, President Salva Kiir said in a statement.
"This heartbreaking incident has claimed the lives of 20 innocent souls, with one survivor," the statement read.
The survivor is reportedly in a critical condition.
"Among the victims were Engineers and Technical staff of the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC), one of our major Joint Operating Oil Companies (JOCs) in the oil sector," Kiir noted.
The president instructed the Ministry of Transport and all relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and swift investigation to determine the cause of the crash, he said in a statement.
