A US court on Tuesday ordered the suspension of the implementation of President Donald Trump's decision to freeze federal grants, loans, and other financial assistance programs until February 3. The stay entered into effect at 17:00 local time, the statement read, adding that at the same time on Tuesday, "several coalitions of nonprofit organizations" filed a lawsuit against the US Office of Management and Budget, arguing that the funding freeze would have been in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act and the First Amendment of the US Constitution. Alikhan also ordered to hold a hearing on the lawsuit on Monday, February 3. Following Trump's order to freeze federal spending, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced that House Democrats will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss a response to the Trump administration's decision.

US Court Halts Implementation of Trump's Spending Freeze Until February 3
10:04 29.01.2025 (Updated: 10:23 29.01.2025) WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - On Tuesday, the White House ordered a pause on federal grants, loans, and other financial assistance programs until they could be reviewed by the Trump administration.
A US court on Tuesday ordered the suspension of the implementation of President Donald
Trump's decision to freeze federal grants, loans, and other financial assistance programs until February 3.
"To maintain the status quo until the court may rule on Plaintiffs’ motion, it is hereby ordered that an administrative stay is entered in this case until 5:00 p.m. on February 3, 2025 [22:00 GMT]," Judge Loren Alikhan of Columbia District Court said in a statement.
"Plaintiffs allege that the implicated federal grants and funding 'are the lifeblood of operations and programs for many . . . nonprofits, and even a short pause in funding . . . could deprive people and communities of their life-saving services,'" the judge said.
Alikhan also ordered to hold a hearing on the lawsuit on Monday, February 3.
Following Trump's order to freeze federal
spending, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced that House Democrats will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss a response to the Trump administration's decision.
