Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that Russia is strengthening its ties with Africa to build mutually beneficial relations. And according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the continent is becoming one of the priority areas of Russian foreign policy.
Assistance to Africa in cooperation with UNESCO is a priority for Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an
interview with the Russian Kultura TV channel for the "UNESCO: 70 Years in Russia" film.
"We [Russia] are helping African countries in several areas. Africa is a priority for UNESCO, meaning that, in all areas of activity, including bodies, commissions and other events that we initiate, we pay special attention to this continent," he pointed out.
Commenting on the programs that Russia is implementing in cooperation with UNESCO in relation to Africa, Lavrov noted that there is the Green Chemistry for Life project, which supports young scientists specializing in innovative technologies in the field of green chemistry, and that Russia is particularly focusing on African countries in this context.
"In all other areas of UNESCO's activities, we always consider it important to support Africans in preserving their culture and traditions. This work will remain our priority," the Russian top diplomat emphasized.
