In the beginning of last month, UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage included Xeer Ciise, the Somali-Issa oral customary law, in its list of intangible cultural heritage. This was done at the joint request of Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Somalia.

Speaking on the recognition, Adem underscored that the acknowledgment by UNESCO will ensure the protection and transfer of Xeer Ciise to future generations while accelerating cultural tourism development in the region. He stated that the decision symbolizes the collective identity of
