MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The previous summit of the heads of state of the SCO countries took place in Kazakhstan in early July 2024; then it was held in person, and before that, in 2023, it was held via video conference.
The 2025 meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Council will be held in China in late August or early September. It is planned to be held in person, SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev said in an interview with Sputnik.

"The summit is traditionally held in the state that is completing its chairmanship. Therefore, this year, the meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council will be held in China. The dates have been set: late August — early September. And at this upcoming meeting of the Heads of State Council, important decisions are expected to be made, important documents are expected to be signed and approved. Intense and active work is currently underway to prepare for this important event," Yermekbayev said.

When asked about the format in which the summit is planned to be held — in person or remotely — the secretary general replied that it depended on the heads of state, but at the moment it was expected to be held in person.
