In this episode of AfroVerdict, Maxim Bolotskikh, an AI expert, delves into the rapid growth of generative AI, its transformative potential in BRICS+ countries, and the ethical challenges it poses. From economic impacts to real-world applications in sectors like healthcare and agriculture, Mr. Bolotskikh shares expert insights on AI’s future.
If compared to traditional AI, the unique nature of generative AI is its creative capacity to produce original content like text, images, and videos, according to Maxim Bolotskikh, AI expert and partner at Yakov and Partners, an international consulting company.
"Generative AI is a kind of creative artificial intelligence. It can create new texts, images, videos, even music […] It’s like a human brain, trying to understand the dependencies themselves," Mr. Bolotskikh states.
Highlighting the economic opportunities generative AI offers for BRICS+ countries, the expert notes its potential to drive growth across industries.
"From $3 billion to $600 billion could be the potential economic effect by 2030 for BRICS+ countries," he explains.
Bolotskikh emphasizes its applications in key sectors such as healthcare, where AI "can assist doctors in diagnostics," and agriculture, where it can "help predict weather impacts" and "diseases affecting crops."
He underlines the importance of collaboration and investment in AI technologies, particularly in the Global South.
"Countries need to invest in this technology because it’s the future. Without it, they risk falling behind in development across all industries," Bolotskikh concludes.
