Tensions between the DRC and Rwanda escalated in 2022, largely due to the M23 rebel group's offensive. The DRC and its allies accuse Rwanda of supporting and even fighting alongside the M23, while Rwanda dismisses the allegations.
Turkey is prepared to help solve the conflict between Rwanda and the DRC if both parties desire it, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a joint press conference with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Ankara.
"Within the framework of the principle of finding African solutions to African problems, we aim to contribute to the continent's stability and development on the basis of equal partnership and win-win cooperation,” he said.
Erdogan affirmed Turkey’s support for the Angola-led Rwanda-DRC negotiations. The two leaders discussed boosting cooperation and trade, highlighting the important role of Turkish companies' presence in Rwanda and agreeing to increase Turkish investments.
