MOSCOW (Sputnik) - China's Xi Jinping and Russia's Putin held a video call on Tuesday against the backdrop of the inauguration of the new US President Trump, which took place the day before.
Russia has become the biggest supplier of natural gas to China, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.
"Five years ago, together with you, we launched the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. Today, Russia has become the number one supplier of natural gas to China," Putin said during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping via video conference.
Russia and China are working in the interests of ensuring indivisible security in Eurasia and in the world as a whole, Putin said.
"We are working in the interests of ensuring indivisible security in the Eurasian space and in the world as a whole," he stated.
The trend towards a steady growth of trade between China and Russia continues, the Chinese president said.
The Chinese-Russian relations, the core of which is eternal good-neighborliness and friendship, comprehensive strategic interaction, mutually beneficial cooperation and win-win, are acquiring new vitality, he added.
"Bilateral practical cooperation is steadily expanding, and the steady growth trend in mutual trade is maintained. And the eastern route of the China-Russia gas pipeline has been brought to full capacity ahead of schedule," Xi said.

China to Bolster Strategic Coordination With Russia, Ambassador Says
China is ready to take relations with Russia to new heights and to resist external uncertainty, the president added.
Moscow and Beijing build relations based on friendship and mutual trust, Putin said.
"I agree with you that cooperation between Moscow and Beijing is based on a broad commonality of national interests and a convergence of views on what relations between major powers should be like. We build our ties on the basis of friendship, mutual trust and support, equality and mutual benefit," the Russian leader stressed.
During the conversation with Xi, Putin suggested summarizing work over the past year and outlining new plans for the development of relations.
"Successful joint projects are being implemented in industry, transport, agriculture and other areas," Putin said, adding that the bilateral ties do not depend on the political situation.
The comprehensive strengthening of relations between Russia and China meets the objectives of their development, Putin said.
According to the Russian leader, the foreign policy relations between Russia and China play an important stabilizing role in world affairs.

"It can be said with confidence that foreign policy relations and joint work between Russia and China objectively play an important stabilizing role in international affairs," Putin said.

Russia and China jointly advocate the building of a more just multipolar world order, the president added.
