The improvement of the Malian army in recent years is undeniable, as it has undergone a profound human, doctrinal, organizational and material transformation, the country's president stated on the eve of the 64th anniversary of the national army.
The creation of the Malian military industry will be completed in 2025, with the modernization of the military infrastructure and the construction of military facilities, that will make it possible for the armed forces to protect the population throughout the country, President Assimi Goita said in an address to the nation,
published by the presidency, on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the Malian army, celebrated on Monday.
"In order to consolidate the operational achievements of 2024 and with a view to further progress, the process of equipping the armed forces and security forces, as well as the creation of a military industry will be completed in 2025," he stated.
Mali's military infrastructure is being completely modernized, the leader noted, adding that the government has already implemented the operational reorganization of the army, with forward bases providing greater territorial coverage to strengthen the
state's presence throughout the country, especially in the most vulnerable regions.
"We are actively working on the establishment of arms factories with units for the assembly of individual and collective weapons, the assembly of light tactical vehicles, and the production of ammunition and explosives for civilian use," Goita added.
As part of efforts to adapt to new threats, the Malian army will be supplied with new, more advanced equipment in 2025, he pointed out.
"The next few years will be decisive. We have begun to lay the foundations for a sovereign, independent Mali, in charge of its own destiny," the top official emphasized.
The changes, which have already been implemented, enabled the Malian Armed Forces to deploy more effectively and rapidly to protect the people, he also noted.
The president stressed the importance of
military cooperation within the framework of the Alliance of Sahel States, which helps to strengthen not only the country's internal security but also that of the region as a whole.
"By uniting in a confederation, we have not only strengthened our military capabilities, but also set an example of regional cooperation that will contribute to the stability and prosperity of the Sahel and West Africa," Goita said.
