Sixty-four years ago, Patrice Lumumba, the hero of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was assassinated at the age of 35.
Patrice Lumumba's approach emphasized Pan-Africanism and empowering Africans to take responsibility, write their own history, and build their own countries, which led to his assassination by colonialists, Laddy Yangotikala Senga, National Member of Parliament of the DRC, told Sputnik Africa.
According to the lawmaker, many Africans perceive Russia as a true friend, based on their belief in its support for global development and African independence. He contrasted this with Western colonial powers like the US and Europe, which Senga accused of exploiting Africa for resources and disregarding its people, pointing to the Lumumba situation as evidence.
