Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby’s party, the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS), is winning the legislative elections, securing 124 of the 188 seats in the National Assembly, equal to 65.96%, showed provisional results published by the country's National Election Management Agency (ANGE).The National Rally of Chadian Democrats (RNDT), the party of the former Prime Minister Pahimi Padacke Albert, is in second place behind the MPS with 12 seats. The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) and the National Union for Democracy and Renewal (UNDR) won eight and seven seats, respectively. Approximately 8 million Chadians reportedly went to the polls on December 29, and the turnout for the parliamentary elections was 51.56%.Last Thursday, 24 armed men attacked the palace of the Chadian president; 18 of them were eliminated, and one of the palace guards was killed. Mahamat Idriss Deby later described the incident as an assassination attempt aimed at destabilizing the country.
