MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The death toll from the ongoing wildfires in and around Los Angeles increased to 24 people, ABC News reported, citing the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner. Previously, 16 fatalities were reported.
Wildfires in California could become the largest disaster in US history in terms of destruction and associated costs, California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Sunday.
"I think it will be in terms of just the costs associated with it, in terms of the scale and scope," Newsom told NBC News when asked a relevant question.
Newsom signed an executive order aimed at helping fire victims to restore their homes and businesses more quickly.
"When the fires are extinguished, victims who have lost their homes and businesses must be able to rebuild quickly and without roadblocks. The executive order I signed today will help cut permitting delays, an important first step in allowing our communities to recover faster and stronger," Newsom said in a statement published by his office.
