For more than a decade, Nigeria has grappled with a wave of insecurity, fueled by the Boko Haram insurgency and other extremist groups. These groups have engaged in numerous criminal activities, including the kidnapping of children and adults for ransom.
The
UN needs to intervene to investigate the funding and training of Boko Haram terrorists, Nigeria's Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, stated, emphasizing that it involves international flows beyond their control.
“The problem is that I think we have talked to the international community. Let’s find out the funding. As we speak, over 120,000 Boko Haram members have surrendered, and most of them came with hard currency. How did they get it? How are they funded? How did they get the training? How did they get the equipment?" he questioned.
Musa implied a potential international conspiracy, stating, "How are they being able to sustain themselves for 15 years? That is one question I think everybody should ask themselves."
Musa stressed the importance of
continuing joint training and obtaining the necessary equipment, essential to project the country's efforts in wars against terrorists. The general explained that while Nigeria is doing its best, procuring equipment internationally is often difficult.
He affirmed that the country does not encourage foreign bases, highlighting Nigeria’s capacity to secure itself and assist Africa.
