Sao Tome and Principe is a small, Portuguese-speaking island nation in Central Africa, located off the coast of Africa in the Gulf of Guinea. It comprises two main volcanic islands, Sao Tome and Principe, and several smaller islands. It is the second-smallest African country in terms of area and the smallest Portuguese-speaking country.
Carlos Vila Nova, President of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, dismissed the government, citing its "inability" to resolve national issues and the prime minister's absences.
The president's decree, published Monday, cited Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada's government's "notable inability" to solve national problems and his "frequent and prolonged" absences as reasons for its dismissal.
