Indonesia Thanks Russia for Support in Joining BRICS

Earlier, the government of Brazil, which took over the chairmanship of the BRICS group from Russia on January 1, announced that Indonesia had joined the economic bloc as a full member.
The Indonesian government is grateful to Russia for its help in joining the BRICS association, the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The Ministry also extends its appreciation to the 2024 BRICS Presidency of Russia for their support and leadership in facilitating Indonesia's entry into BRICS, as well as appreciates the Presidency of Brazil for announcing Indonesia’s inclusion in the group," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

The ministry said Indonesia's membership in BRICS is a result of Indonesia's active participation in BRICS in recent years, including its participation in the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg in 2023 under the chairmanship of South Africa and the Summit in Kazan in 2024 under the chairmanship of Russia.
"The Ministry also extends its appreciation to the 2024 BRICS Presidency of Russia for their support and leadership in facilitating Indonesia's entry into BRICS, as well as appreciates the Presidency of Brazil for announcing Indonesia’s inclusion in the group," the ministry added.
