MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The suspect in the deadly truck ramming in New Orleans planted two bombs near the site of the attack that have been transferred for further examination, the FBI said.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US-born Army veteran from Texas, drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans in the early hours of January 2, killing 14 people and injuring at least 35 others. He was killed in a shootout with police officers. The FBI recovered a flag of the Daesh* terrorist group (aka ISIS) from the back of the suspected attacker's vehicle.
"The FBI assesses that, during his attack on Bourbon Street, Jabbar intended to use a transmitter, which was found in the F150 truck, to detonate the two IEDs [improvised explosive devices] he placed on Bourbon Street. The transmitter, along with two firearms connected to Jabbar, is being transported to the FBI Laboratory for additional testing, as well as clothing and shell casings from the truck," the FBI said in a statement on Friday.
FBI personnel are also analyzing terabytes of video and other data gathered by street cameras, the statement added.
Jabbar is believed to have served at the same military base as the suspect in the Las Vegas blast, 37-year-old Army veteran Matthew Livelsberger. A Tesla Cybertuck exploded near the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on January 1, killing the driver and injuring seven others.
