France has already withdrawn from three Sahelian countries: Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire also announced the upcoming departure of French troops from their territories.
Chad's President
Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno asserted the country's determination to end the French military presence in his New Year's address to the nation.
"I welcome the withdrawal of the first wave of French forces. Other waves will follow until the complete withdrawal on January 31," he said.
The head of state emphasized that the decision to
break military agreements with Paris was taken after careful consideration. He explained that he had assessed the security, economic, diplomatic, and media consequences of this action.
Attempts at
destabilization are possible, including those that may involve manipulated citizens, the marshal warned.
However, this choice responds to a legitimate aspiration of the Chadian people, he stated.
