Algeria is reforming its mining sector to attract investment, including a $32-million minerals mapping project and streamlined regulations. With world-class deposits of key minerals like phosphate, iron ore, and gold, Algeria offers significant opportunities as global demand increases.
Algeria plans to boost its gold production by reactivating several old mines, specifically the Amesmassa and Tirek deposits in the Tamanrasset province. These mines have been abandoned for the past decade, according to Belkacem Soltani, the CEO of the Sonarem group, as reported by the media.
In pursuit of this goal, the government already issued approximately 46 licenses to companies interested in exploiting these gold deposits.

Furthermore, Soltani noted that Algerian gold production exceeded 351 kg between 2022 and December 2024. These results are attributed to the implementation of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's strategy aimed at reducing raw material imports and increasing national non-hydrocarbon exports.
