Moscow and Bamako are now discussing the construction of a small-scale nuclear power plant, and a solar power plant in the African country, a Russian ambassador noted.
Russia and Mali expand economic cooperation in energy, agriculture and infrastructure, Russian Ambassador to Mali and Niger Igor Gromyko told Russian media.

"During the visit of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak to Bamako [in early December], the sides discussed ways to strengthen and develop economic interaction between Russia and Mali, cooperation in energy, transportation, infrastructure, agriculture and mining. The agreements reached are aimed at further development of mutually beneficial economic cooperation between the two countries," he said.

Russian state-owned nuclear energy company Rosatom is involved in cooperation agreements focusing on nuclear infrastructure and training.
In May, the construction of a 200 MW solar power plant near Bamako began with the involvement of Novavind, a Russian company owned by Rosatom, the ambassador recalled.
