Russia will not hold any arms control talks with the United States until Washington abandons its anti-Russian course, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Sputnik. Furthermore, Russia is ready to continue to implement a number of measures to maintain an acceptable level of predictability in relations with the United States in the missile and nuclear sphere, Lavrov said.He added that due to the "anti-Russian charge" of the current US administration, there are currently no conditions for dialogue on strategic stability and Moscow will not conduct any negotiations with Washington on arms control in principle until the United States abandons its anti-Russian course. As examples of such measures, he cited the fact that Russia continued to adhere to the quantitative restrictions on the relevant weapons provided for by the New START treaty, and that Russia's unilateral moratorium on the deployment of ground-based medium- and shorter-range missiles remained in effect.

Moscow Rejects Any Arms Control Talks With US Until US Rethinks Russia Policy, Russian FM Says
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - During a presser on Thursday, Lavrov noted that Donald Trump's team signaled interest in resuming talks with Russia, which he deemed "reasonable and normal." However, he emphasized that the US must take the initial step, as it was the one to cut off relations after the launch of Russia's military operation in Ukraine.
Russia will not hold any arms control talks with the United States until Washington abandons its anti-Russian course, Russian Foreign Minister
Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with
Sputnik.
"Given the extreme anti-Russian sentiment of the current US authorities, there are currently no conditions for strategic dialogue with Washington," he said. "We will not hold any arms control talks with the Americans until they abandon their current anti-Russian course."
Furthermore, Russia is ready to continue to implement a number of measures to maintain an acceptable level of predictability in relations with the United States in the missile and
nuclear sphere, Lavrov said.
"The objective reality is that as a result of the destructive policy of the United States, the foundations of strategic stability have been shaken considerably, and in some places destroyed," Lavrov said.
He added that due to the "anti-Russian charge" of the current US administration, there are currently no conditions for dialogue on strategic stability and Moscow will not conduct any negotiations with Washington on arms control in principle until the United States abandons its
anti-Russian course."This does not mean that Russia will not implement a number of measures to maintain an acceptable level of predictability in the nuclear missile sphere on a voluntary basis, which is what we are doing," the minister said.
As examples of such measures, he cited the fact that Russia continued to adhere to the quantitative restrictions on the relevant weapons provided for by the New START treaty, and that Russia's unilateral moratorium on the deployment of ground-based medium- and shorter-range missiles remained in effect.
"Some other steps are also being taken," he said.
